3 TIPS TO STAY ACTIVE WITH A SEDENTARY JOB
Adopting an active lifestyle can be challenging, especially if you work a desk job, or simply somewhere that doesn't require you to move. However, staying active throughout the day is very beneficial for mental and physical health, longevity, energy levels, stess management, healthy sleep, and so on. We believe prioritizing movement should be a part of everyone's routine, so we wanted to share with you these 3 tips on how to stay active, even with a sedentary job.
INCREASING DAILY STEP COUNT
This is probably the easiest change you can make, therefore the first one you should look into. Walking is a form of low impact movement that can be done almost everywhere and that barely requires any recovery. Plus, walking can be added up through multiple different actions and moments of your day. Here are some ways to increase your daily step count :
- Try taking morning or evening walks ;
- Get a walking pad ;
- Park as far as you can in parking lots ;
- Use the stairs instead of the elevator ;
- If you need to do/get something in another room, do it now ;
- Walk around the room while talking on the phone ;
- Etc.
TIME BLOCKING
Find when is the best time for you to go to the gym or to do some movement, and block that time for movement. If you can workout in the morning, make sure to do so. If you workout after work, go straight to the gym instead of stopping home. Make it so you have no excuse not to move!
USING WORK BREAKS FOR MOVEMENT
Small actions add up, and taking advantage of your morning, lunch and afternoon breaks can really make a huge difference in your day! Try going on walks during breaks, and maybe even throw a workout session on your lunch time if your job allows you to eat while working. Don't underestimate the power of a 10-15 minute walk!
OVERVIEW
Overall, moving your body everyday is not something to ignore, and the benefits of doing so are countless. We truly believe daily activity should be available and come naturally for everyone, even those with a job that has sedentary tendencies. Make sure you save and try those tips, and watch how good it makes you feel!
