APPLE PIE CINNAMON ROLLS
If you ever wondered what it would look like if you mixed the two most iconic autumn desserts together... well you have your answer! These are healthier cinnamon rolls made with homemade high protein dough, filled with cinnamon apple filling. They're topped with healthy maple frosting as their final touch. If that didn't make your mouth water.. We truly don't know what will!
Ingredients
Dough
- 1/2 cup flour
- 1/2 cup oat flour
- 1 scoop Maple Brown Sugar isolate protein
- 1 cup greek yoghurt
- 1 tbsp sugar free syrup
- 1 tbsp cinnamon
- 1 tbsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
Apple filling
- 1-2 apples, peeled and chopped
- 1 tbsp sugar free syrup
- 1/4 brown sugar or brown sugar replacement
- 1/4 cup granulated sweetener
- 1 tbsp cinnamon
- 3 tbsp water
Frosting
- 1 cup greek yoghurt
- 1/2 scoop Maple Brown Sugar isolate protein
Preparation
- Add the apple filling ingredients to a pot and bring to a boil ;
- Let simmer until the water is mostly evaporated and you get a "sticky" texture ;
- Set in the fridge while you prepare the dough ;
- Mix the dry dough ingredients in a bowl, then add the wet ingredients and mix until a dough forms ;
- Sprinkle more flour on a clean, dry surface and roll the dough until it is about 0.5-1 cm thick ;
- Spread the apple filling on the dough, then roll and cut into 6 rolls ;
- Grease a small baking dish and put the cinnamon rolls in ;
- Air fry at 350°F for about 12 minutes ;
- While the buns are cooking, mix the greek yoghurt and protein powder to create the frosting ;
- Spread the frosting when the buns are still warm, and enjoy!
